Tanzania is a country in East Africa. It is bordered by Kenya and Uganda to the north; Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west; Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique to the south; and the Indian Ocean to the east.
Both name and country derive from the union of Tanganika and Zanzibar Archipelago, that took place in 1964.
From 1884 to 1919 Tanzania was a German colony with the name of German East Africa. Then, at the end of First World War it was occupied by English, that had their protectorate over Zanzibar since 1890.
