- Suriname is a country on the northeastern Atlantic coast of South America. It is bordered by French Guiana to the east, Guyana to the west and Brazil to the south. Until November 1975 Suriname was under Dutch rule with the name of Dutch Guiana. Suriname was one of the constituent countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, along with the Netherlands Antilles and the Netherlands.
