- Antigua and Barbuda is an island nation of Caribbean Central America. It lies between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Antigua was part of British Empire since 1600, then it was joined with the islands of Barbuda and Redonda in 1860; in 1981 it became independent. Nowaday it is a monarchy: the Head of State is the Queen of England. It is part of the Commonwealth of Nations.
